From Behind to On Benchmark:
See the High-Dosage Tutoring Impact on
Mass. Students

During the 2023-24 school year, Johns Hopkins University researchers studied the reading progress of nearly 2,000 Massachusetts 1st graders who received 1:1 foundational reading skills tutoring from Ignite Reading.

Researchers found that students reading on benchmark increased 213% with the help of tutoring while the number of students in need of intensive intervention decreased 55%. Students across demographics — including students of color, multilingual learners, and those with an IEP — all improved their skills at nearly the same rate, gaining an average of 5.4 months of added learning (compared to national averages).
